New words, better than the tired, old words you’ve grown used to:
- Ashamorse [ə-ˈshām-hȯrs] The state of being ashamed and having remorse. This word came from my teenage daughter. A related version: shamorse.

- Pizzarito [pēt-sə-rē-tō] Make a pizza on a torilla, roll it up & you have a pizzarito.
- Afraud [a-frȯd] African email scams
- Christmasochist [kris-mə-sə-kist] Someone who takes on way too much at Christmas
- Kwanzaaholic* [kwän-zə-hȯ-lik] Someone who’s a bit over the top with Kwanzaa
- Vaccumulate [va-kyüm-ə-lāt] To accumulate vacuums
- Tesslatte [tes-lä-tā] My drink of choice when I am driving my (future) Tessla

Twin trees on the sand at Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, California
Twin Trees
You know those double trees that you see now and then? The twins that apparently grew from a single seed but immediately differentiated into what appear to be two independent trees? They are great examples of the dichotomy between individual and group life. We are all like those trees. In fact we are those trees. All life on Earth is composed of living cells, sometimes specialized to function with others in a larger organism. Everything that makes us up – all the matter and energy – is recycled from other living beings and exchanged with others all the time. We are like the cells that make up our bodies, part of a larger life system we may not pay conscious attention to. Our brains have developed egos that can get in the way of understanding that we are not isolated; we are parts of a whole.

Slight misspellings can create a new world of words. It’s like the genetic mutations that make evolution possible. So, here’s to the evolution of the language:

Word needed! A metal container is a can and a glass container is a jar. But we have no word (that I know of) for a plastic container. I suggest plidge, because it rhymes with “fridge,” and thus would be a boon to the both the poetry and music industries.

Here are some new words. Many of them come from my 11 and 13 year old children:
A new term of endearment for you to use: Dear + Darling = Dearling
Funcle: a fun uncle (not to be confused with funkle, a funky uncle)
Recyclopedia: an encyclopedia of reused words (or, as my daughter says, an encyclopedia of homophones)
Docktour: a tour of a dock, of course. I guess a Doctour would be a tour of a hospital staff
Insanitize: To make insanely clean
